All vehicles must first be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles . Vehicle owners, lessees, and purchasers of new vehicles must register their vehicles with the Commissioner of Revenue within 90 days of moving to Chesterfield County or the purchase of vehicle. All vehicles are taxable based on ownership. Personal Property taxes on motor vehicles are prorated on a monthly basis, while mobile homes are not. For questions regarding mobile homes, please contact the Commissioner of the Revenue at 748-1281.

Deadlines

Personal Property tax returns must be filed on or before March 2 of each year. Taxes are to be paid by the due date to avoid penalties and interest.
